Whats the difference between a number 3 hitter and a number 4 hitter?

AND DONT SAY THAT SOMEONE BATS THIRD AND THE OTHER BATS FOURTH OR ANYTHING RELATED TO THAT.

your number 3 is the best overall hitter in the line up - he hits for average, he hits home runs, he drives in runs - your number 4 hitter doesn't have to necessarily hit for average but is expected to hit homers and drive in runs -

The #3 hitter is whoever the team feels will be able to drive in the most runs. He almost always has the best bat in the lineup. He'll be expected to see the best pitches too, because the #4 guy will (should) provide protection in the lineup. Why pitch around the #3 batter when the #4 guy will just burn you anyway?

Generally, the three hitter is expected to bring runs home - if the guys in front of him have done their job by getting on base. So the 3 hitter should have a pretty good on-base %, not strike out too much, be able to execute a hit-and-run, etc.

The 4 hitter is also called "clean up". Often, when he's coming up, it means that runners are in scoring position and he's expected to bring them home. He usually has home run power, and is always a threat to get on. Plus, if you put a guy with power behind a real good number 3, the other team will pitch to the 3 hitter so as to avoid facing the #4.

This answer is kinda simple minded, so I hope this helps.

The number 3 hitter in the lineup is seen as the best overall hitter in the lineup. This usually takes into account his combined ability to hit for a high average, power, and not the slowest runner on the team.

The number 4 hitter is regarded as the cleanup hitter for the purpose of being the biggest slugger on the team. He is typically slow (not in ever case though) and has the most power on the team. He's the 4th person to bat because if one of the first 3 hitters get on base, he could drive them in for the RBI. This is also why it's important for a #3 hitter to have some speed.

#1 Hitters are leadoff hitters becasue they are great at getting on base and are usually one of the fastest players on the team to ensure a base runner and ge the team rolling.

the three hitter bats before the four hitter
haha just kidding
there's not much difference. the 3-4-5 is where the manager puts you if you can get some hits with runners on.

The #3 hitter is usually a contact hitter, someone with a combination of decent speed and decent power, likely the best hitter on your team. The #3 guy has the task of moving the 1st and 2nd guy to the next base (assuming their on).

The #4 guy is the slugger, someone who will pound the pitch as hard as he can. He's usually slower than the #3 guy, with more power. However, your #4 guy is more likely to strikeout and hit into doubleplays.

Very good answers here.

In terms of production, your leadoff guy (and in many cases, the #2 hitter) are expected to score 100 or more runs/season by getting on base a lot band being driven in.

The #4 hitter is expected to drive in 100 or more runs/season on a consistent basis.

An everyday #3 hitter should consistently come close to both scoring AND driving in 100 runs, by getting on base a lot (to be driven in by the #4 and #5 hitters) as well as hitting with power (and driving in the #1 and #2 hitters, in addition to driving himself in with a few dingers).

The #4 guy has more injection sites?

usually 3 hitter will bring home the other hitters
