Metal Bats Being Banned In Baseball?

Read this yahoo article on the above if you haven't already:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070423/ap_o...

Do you think metal bats should be banned for "safety?" I mean, if you can't catch a ball, get off the field. And if you can't handle being hit once in a while, stop playing. What are they going to do next? Outlaw wooden bats, someone can only use a plastic bat and ball? I mean, wtf is this. Personally, I hate baseball, but I still am against this.

Absolutely not! I completely agree with what you said. It seems like these days, we are babying kids more and more. Has it come to the point where we can't even use metal bats any more? Little leaguers across the country have been using metal bats for decades without problems. Not only that, but like the article says, there isn't even concrete proof that metal bats are more dangerous than wooden bats, just anecdotes.

There will always be some element of danger in sports. While safety equipment (helmets, pads, etc.) is for the most part legitimate, at some point it just becomes ridiculous. Banning metal bats significant alters an aspect of the game (imagine how low-scoring LL games would be if they used wooden bats!) and really does ruin it.

I say we stop trying to shelter our kids in this protective bubble, and instead let them grow up normally, like we all did. They'll turn out just fine.

Good thing we have politicians to think for us uninformed stupid folk! It is amazing the human race has survived as long as it has without the enlightened crowd wrapping us up in bubble-wrap every step of the way!

The irony of this... Does anyone remember why leagues switched to metal bats?

The answer... METAL BATS DON'T BREAK & SPLINTER!

Ever see someone hit an inside pitch off the handle of a three year-old wooden bat on a cold day? It isn't pretty. Jagged wooden fragments, the head of the bat sometimes flies out towards the pitcher or fielders...

Ever wonder why so many catcher's masks have that protective plastic throat guard? Because Steve Yeager of the Dodgers was impaled by a broken bat!
