Yes, Houston Astros is in the National League, unlike Yankees where they are in the American league. American League have a designated hitter, so pitchers do not have to bat. However if they were in the World Series depending who's play for example. Astros vs Yankees, If Yankees were in Houston the pitcher would have to bat since they're at a national league ballpark, and if Astros were at Yankee's stadium then there's a designated hitter.

Well... technically, yes, he batted, but he almost shouldn't have bothered. Most of the time he tried to lay down a sac bunt or just swung away lackadaisically. No, he's not in the game for his hitting skills, but he could have at least TRIED to hit the ball sometimes, especially with a friendly home park like Minute Maid. sigh.
