If you are a pitcher and like living then wooden bats are better.
If you lobby for big business then aluminum is better. A aluminum bat because it transfers energy better. The pro's use wood because back then they only had wooden bats so all the records were set with wood, so it wouldn't be fair if the pro's used aluminium. Professional baseball players have always used wooden bats. The aluminum baseball bat is used for every other level of play.
Youth leagues like the aluminum bats because of the cost factor. Wooden bats break and have to be replaced. This drives up the equipment costs for the league.
Since the aluminum baseball bat is much lighter, you will be able to swing it faster. The speed of these bats is also helped by their center of gravity. An aluminum baseball bat has a center of gravity closer to your hands, while wooden bats have a center of gravity farther away. This enables you to swing the aluminum bat faster.
When you hit a baseball with an aluminum bat.. the ball travels faster and farther. It is easier for a kid to get a hit out of the infield with an aluminum bat. That builds up confidence.
As kids get bigger there is a concern among some people that the balls shoot off aluminum bats so fast that pitchers and other infielders don't have time to react.
I feel like the pros are so big and strong, there would be many more homeruns and also many more serious injurys being hit by very fast hit ball.
Now a few words about the advantages of the wooden bats.
They have always been used and switching to aluminum would possibly change the game too much and make historical records more difficult to compare.
The "crack" sound of a wood bat striking a ball is almost universally preferred to the "ping" sound of aluminum bats as well.
Major league stadiums are all built for wood bats. A switch to metal bats would necessitate moving the fences back which is not easily done in most parks, and would end up moving fans further away from the game. It would also force outfielders to play deeper which opens up more of the field for singles and would tilt the balance of the game, probably too far in favor of hitters.
As it stands now pitchers throw so hard and hitters are so quick with the bat that a liner hit back to the mound offers almost no reaction time for the pitcher. Throw an aluminum bat into the mix and you may see pitchers not surviving games.
So my opinion is that aluminum bats are better for kids but the pros should stick with the wooden bats.
