Jeremy is correct about the luxery tax which was imposed in 2003. The Yankees have had to pay every year since then for exceeding the payroll amount. The Red Sox have paid every year since 2004. |

Major League Baseball has no salary cap. They have a luxury tax, but no salary cap. You can spend whatever you want as long as you pay the luxury tax. Several teams do this every year. That money goes to the poor teams who refuse to spend money and don't make money. I bet the top 5 teams teams practically support the bottom 10 teams. There is NO salary cap in baseball None. MLB does not have a salary cap. |
