Who is for a Salary Cap in Baseball Already?

Tribe Fan here, but I would love to see teams like the Royals, Pirates, Devil Rays be competitive. The Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox are getting played out.

Any proposal of a Salary Cap will lead to a strike by the Players Union a la 1994 (No World Series). The MLB Players Union is the strongest out of any of the 3 Major Sports (NFL, MLB, NBA...nhl is no longer valid in my opinion). The Luxury Tax has provided some relief. It really has not curtailed spending by the big market clubs, but it has fed money to the smaller markets and as a result has allowed these clubs to retain some of its young talent (Milwakee Brewers come to mind).

Also, the baseball industry does not want the major markets to fall. It is good for the MLB and the TV networks to have the big market clubs in the playoffs year in and year out. Yes a competitive league is good, but it is better dollar wise to have a NYC, Boston or LA in the post season than a KC or a Tampa Bay.

If the owners ever pushed for a salary cap again it would be the end of the MLB because if a strike would again occur I doubt that the MLB could ever recover from something like 1994 again.

I would be ok with it if it also controled the rising prices to the fan experience.

Haven't considered the salary cap for baseball and I don't know why they haven't put one in yet....

I think they should so its a fair playing field.

Teams mentioned like the Royals, and Devil Rays would actually have a shot at doing something every year.

1) Luxury tax that was mentioned.

2) Reduce numberof teams in league

3) Relocate smaller market teams to better locations.

4) If the owner doesnt care that his team loses and no fans show up, why should they be helped?

I'm fine with the way it is already.

i am personally against it because one very important reason, but it'll take a little time to explain, so be patient.
teams like the yankees have a certain level of money, and with a salary cap or not, that will not change. if a salary cap is put into play, that money that is being split up between a few players now is then split between even more players.

in other words, if team blue has alot of money and have two great players that they are paying 6 million dollars a year for yet everyone else is getting 1 million because that is what they are worth.
team green doesnt have as much money so they only have three 3million dollar players and the rest are 1million dollar players.
then the league puts in a cap into affect at 3 million dollars. team green can't afford anynew players but team blue now has 6 million extra dollars to spend on new players and now have five 3million dollar players on their team. they now have more good players than team green and it is even more unfair than before.

I think a lot of the owners would be ready for it so they didn't have to spend so much money to be competitive.

They dont need it. The twins are good almost every year with a low payroll, a's, tigers last year were low, diamond backs the list goes on there will be no salary cap because it would hurt the game more than help. Dont you little guys enjoy beating my big bad yankees? Adds to it. And while we are on the subject the best way to improve revenue is win! Playoffs make teams alot of money. The teams like the royals that always cry like the royals etc.. wont win because they go into it thinking they have no shot. The twins are just as small a market and are good consistently so its not about money.

I have been a huge baseball fan my whole life, and I would hate the idea of a salary cap. For me, baseball is the way all sports should be played, if you have the money, then it is yours to spend..................... it's the American way! It is up to ownership to make the right decisions and hire the right people who can recognize talent. Yes, the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets are going to have competetive teams because of their market, but Oakland and Minnesota have been competitive for years on a much smaller budget.
