Andre Dawson should be in the hall of fame?

Andre Dawson played 21 seasons in the major leagues, notching 438 home runs and 1591 RBI. He also added 314 stolen bases and 8 Gold Gloves. He was MVP in 1987, and was 2nd in the MVP voting in 1981 and 1983. He was named to the All Star team eight times. Get this man in the HOF!!

Even though I'm a Sox fan I have to admit Andre Dawson was a great player he could hit, had great fielding skills, and for the Cubs to be in last place in 87, Andre Dawson was the only player who didn't have a part at all in them finishing in last place at all that year whether he would've got the NL MVP or not. He was a great player and will one day go to Cooperstown.

I agree that Dawson should be in, he was a heck of a player. Had his knees been better, he could have gone on to even better numbers. I wish him the best, but it will be difficult for him to get in anytime soon.

HOF is a joke...there are so many great not in the hall it's not even funny.

I categorize Dawson as "would look good on a plaque, but the Hall is not suffering for his absence". Note, however, that he's got several more years before the BBWAA voters, and his returns have been climbing toward the promised land.

I think he'll make it.

I probably would not vote for him, because he didn't have many great seasons (three, and that's being generous), and his career OBP is far lower than any HOF player honored as a primary outfielder. (The number itself isn't so important, but it directly reflects how he played the game.)

I won't object the day he gets elected, neither will I cheer; merely offer congratulations.

No, I get sick of this watered down HOF, with mediocre talent.

Averages over his career:

21 HR, 65 R, 76 RBI, 15 SB

Even if you take away his first and last couple of season's his averages don't jump high enough in my opinion. He showed flashes throughout his allustrious career but flashes don't make you HOF material.

He was great defensively and had an excellent career but his offensive numbers don't merit the HOF claim.

yes, he was a talented player... and a borderline Hall-of-Famer.

BUT let's get something straight... Andre Dawson won his MVP award for a LAST PLACE team!

How valuable WAS he? Um... without him, his team would have been last place! (But, with him they were last place anyway!)
