That's a good question. I wish I had a good answer, though. Three guys who should be in the Hall: White, Buck O'Neil, and Roger Maris.

Frank White is not in the Hall of Fame because he was not a great hitter. He did have a couple of seasons, 1985 and 1986, when he hit 22 home runs each year, but he hit only .249 and .272 in those years, and it was downhill from there.

Frank White was certainly one of the top fielding second baseman of all time, but that alone doesn't make him a Hall of Famer. White won 8 Gold Gloves, the same as Bill Mazeroski and it took Mazeroski 30 years to get into the Hall, which he did mainly because of the Series-winning HR he hit in 1960.

Also, take a look at Keith Hernandez. He won 11 Gold Gloves, and was the first baseman on the 1982 Cardinals who won the World Series. Hernandez also shared the 1979 NL MVP with Willie Stargell, but he's not in the Hall either.

I clearly remember those Royal teams of the 70s and early- to mid-80s. They were very tough, Frank White was a major part of that team, but a career .255 average isn't good enough to get a player into the Hall of Fame, even if he was a great fielder.

Those are not hall of fame numbers. He has under 200 HR and under 200 SB.

As for a prior answer stating that Maris should be in the HOF that is insane. He ended is career with 275 HR, of which 133 (48%) were hit in a 3 year span. He was a career .260 hitter (never even sniffed .300 for a season) and has less than 1000 RBI. He had 1 truly great year in 1961, that does not make him HOF material.
