Basically, there are 9 innings where each team gets 3 outs to score runs. In order to score, a player must reach first base and advance around the field to second, third, and finally home again.
Each line-up consists of nine batters, who bat in order. When a batter comes up to the plate, he tries to put the ball in play and reach first base (and try to adance any players already on base home). It's the pitcher's job to throw the ball past the batter within what's called the "strike zone" to get the batter out. If the pitcher misses four times without getting the batter to swing, the batter is awarded first base. If the batter does not swing at a ball in the strike zone, swings and does not make contact, or hits the ball into foul territory, it is considered a strike. If a batter gets three strikes, they are called out (you cannot strikeout on a foul ball).
That's baseball in a nutshell. You may want to read up on force-outs, bunting, stealing, and all of the other details.
