I'm 14, have played since i was 4. i have a great glove in the field. i play every and any position with excellency but my bat won't get any better. what do i do to get great all around numbers. |

i know it's elementary, but keep your eye on the ball, all the way to the bat...i get lazy myself, and watch it to within, say a foot of the bat, and figure i've got myself some contact...but when i make a conscious effort to watch the ball all the way to the bat, thats where i get my power from....jeter's gay, but he does have an absolutely beautiful swing, and a good swing to emulate...it's highly advanced, because he's so good at swinging "inside out" and can slap the ball from the inside to the opposite field (by keeping his hands close and not breaking the wrists....only great hitters- contact hitters i should say, it seems, are any good at doing this)......but good luck, you'll get better and you've got all the time in the world, you're only 14! |

lead with the knob, make sure you stay back on the curve, always take the off-speed pitches to the opposite field. derek jeter is a great example, he leads with the knob and hits the ball with consistency. I'm 13 and have played since i was 6, i feel the same way you do. i use collage bats against slow pitchers and little league bats against fast pitchers. if your on a select team you'll probally need something in between. you also need multiple weapons, like not only swinging away but bunting. i find its very effective to swing at the first pitch and/or anything i can hit. Hitting has several components: |
