I'm a junior in high school and we've won the 6A Kansas State Softball Championship the past 3 years in a row and I'm also on a traveling team. It depends on how old you are. If you're below the ago of 11 a regular bat and glove should do fine. You should practice taking grounders and go to the batting cages to get in some hitting practice. If you're older you should get a good glove and bat. The glove should fit you but it doesn't matter on the quality of it so long as its nto going to fall apart. I myself had used the same glove since third grade until last summer. For the bat, I would recommend a Louisville Catalyst or Easton Synergy. Make sure that you get a bat that is light/heavy and long/short enough for you. Brush up on the rules as well. All players should have cleats, regardless of age. |

well u need tennis shoes, train catching balls and hitting the ball with a bat. u should also start learning its rules so that u come well prepared to the game. good luck! This is all based on age and league ability. You need a mit, that essential, and someone to start throwing with you is also good (so you'll need a ball). You probably won't need your own bat or batting helmet. I wear cleats, but before I had any, I just wore running shoes. You'll need a uniform shirt, socks, if you plan on wearing shorts, rather than knickers, you'll need a knee pad and 'sliders' (like bike shorts with padding down the thighs) for sliding. Alot of great previous answers; I would just like to add one small but significant asset - confidence. I've coached girl's softball for about six years now (from t-ball to teenagers) and I try to preach having fun but playing with confidence. Practice, practice, practice, listen to your coach(es) to build your skills from the fundamentals, don't be afraid to make mistakes and develop confidence in your playing ability. I've been playing and coaching baseball for most of my adult life and I play my best and coach my best when instilled with knowing I'm out there to play my best and have confidence in myself and my players. All you need is cleats and a sports ability First of all i've played softball for 16 years. If you are playing for your school, some will provide equipment like bats, balls, uniforms, and sometimes gloves. I prefer to wear cleats instead of regular shoes because you get better traction on the field, especially if its wet. If you decide to buy a glove, get one that fits comfortably on your hand. Most gloves you will have to break-in using oils or foams that will soften the leather. If you do go this direction follow all the directions on the softener, then when you aren't using your glove put a ball inside it and take a couple shoe strings and wrap your glove around it tying shut around it. Softball is a fun game as long as you let it be fun. Starting out is the hardest but don't give up after a few tries. I hope this helps you. man u really need to get ready if u expect to be ready for the high school level. ur legs need to be strong, u will need to be able to throw, catch, and be able to make a play, oh and hit. there are colletes that ul need. no metal on the bottom, soccer colletes should be good if u have a pair that fits. ull also need a glove, bat, batting gloves, and a helment. do drills to prepare ur self. good luck. |
