| Opinions on the S.F. Giants keeping Bonds just to break the home run record.? |

I say the S.F Giants threw away this whole season just so they could have Barry Bonds break the home run record in a Giants uniform. If I were a Giants fan, I would be upset. Barry Bonds is worthless in the National league. He was worthless to the team before the season started and now that he's broken the record they cut him loose. |

Keeping him to break the record was dirty, low, unethical, but very smart. They made a ton of money off of him and don't forget, professional sports is about making money for the owners. They made their money and now they are cutting loose, smart. |

Well, you can't really say they would have contended without him. They finished 19 games back. Maybe they figured they had put together a good enough team to be able to carry him without any detriment, maybe they knew they weren't going anywhere, so why not have him break the record with them? Their failures this last year were not due solely to having the dead weight that was Barry Bonds on the roster. As the Turnstile Whirls i believe they were... to have their name accross many pictures in the hall andto have no interest in a slugger like barry after he just hit 500+ homers Agreed, it was a smart move. I think it's safe to say not even the Giants organization likes Barry as a person OR a player. It's why they don't want him back. They just needed to keep him around for the moolah. Even though San Fransisco had to spend alot of money on Barry bonds, their team this year would not have been god enough to get into the playoffs if they could have spent his pay on other players. However, the money that they earned through more ticket sales, promotions...tv right...etc, will benefit them in the long run....This fact is demonstrated when the Giants did not resign Bonds once he broke the home run record. In fact, this year they will have so much money to spend on good players that you can expect them to make a playoff run.... |
