| Standards for MLB uniforms? |

The beauty of baseball is in tradition. I hate to see teams waver from tradition in their uniforms. I'm not talking about stylish logos. I'm talking about a few norms that have always been there: |

I feel exactly the same way about all those things. I would like to add one more though. I hate that some guys don't wear stirrups. It should be mandatory for everyone to wear them. Without the stirrups it just doesn't look like a baseball uniform. It looks like a mediocre shirt and pants. |

Away should always say city and you should have to wear grey or off-colored pants (e.g.Padres beige colored away's) I agree about the road uniforms having the city name. What I really don't like are all these teams that wear sleeveless jerseys. Only the Pirates and Reds look good in them in my opinion. Those black sleeveless Rockies uniforms look incomplete, like the sleeves just haven't been added yet. Do I really need to see that much undershirt? No. It's like a wierd clash of traditional and new style. I'm with you on this one. I agree with most of what you said, but not all. I like tge idea of home uniforms being white and road uniforms gray - period. I don't like any of the colored or black jerseys. I've turned on too many games and seen both teams wearing the darker jerseys, and to me it looks more like a rec league softball game then a major league baseball game. My other pet peeve is that the uniforms are no longer "uniform". You've hot guys that wear stirrups and high pants, some that wear stirrups, but have them down so thet appear to have one solid color sock on, and you have the guys that have their pants down to the shoes. I played ball from age 7 until my mid 20's, pee-wee league to very low level minor league ball, and we always looked the same. Our pants were at the same level, we all wear the same color undershirts, we kept our jerseys tucked in, and we all either wore stirrups or we didn't. Maybe it's old fashioned, but I've always thought that professionals in any field should dress the part, whether it be a dark suit for an undertaker, a robe for a clergyman, or a uniform for an athlete. In the major leagues, half of the players look like they have either been through a war in their uniforms (filthy caps, batting helmets, etc.) or are wearing a hand me down from a big brother. I think that the athletes of today have gotten so much more into themselves that they have forgetton what it means to be a team player, and I think it is reflected in the lack of uniformity in the way they are dressed. Don't know about only white/grey... I like the Giants' home cream uniforms and the Padres' road sand uniforms. I believe in tradition also. As to abbreviation the NY Metropolitans always said Mets not Metropolitans, but there is only one team that has never changed their uniform and that's the NY Yankees they wear the same home ad away uniform today they did since the team was formed. I tend to agree. Home unis should be all white and road unis of gray or off wjite (cream - SF or sand - SD). On the uni should either be the teams name, city or a logo. |
