Standards for MLB uniforms?

The beauty of baseball is in tradition. I hate to see teams waver from tradition in their uniforms. I'm not talking about stylish logos. I'm talking about a few norms that have always been there:

The grey away jersey has the name of the CITY, not the TEAM (ex: Boston, New York, Toronto). I hate seeing teams with the team name on the grey jersey (ex: Orioles, Angels)

The white home jersey has the team name (Red Sox, Dodgers) or a logo over the left breast ("NY" for Yankees, "D" for Detroit, Cubs logo, SOX for White Sox).

I also don't like seeing teams with ABBREVIATIONS of their names on the jersey (Jays instead of Blue Jays, D-backs instead of Diamondbacks). I hate it!

I like having third and fourth jerseys (coloured and black jerseys), and those can have the team or city as far as I'm concerned (Black Rockies jersey says "COLORADO", red Red Sox jersey says "RED SOX").

How does everyone else feel about this?

I feel exactly the same way about all those things. I would like to add one more though. I hate that some guys don't wear stirrups. It should be mandatory for everyone to wear them. Without the stirrups it just doesn't look like a baseball uniform. It looks like a mediocre shirt and pants.

Away should always say city and you should have to wear grey or off-colored pants (e.g.Padres beige colored away's)

Home should say the teams name or nick name, and you should have to wear white pants.

I agree about the road uniforms having the city name. What I really don't like are all these teams that wear sleeveless jerseys. Only the Pirates and Reds look good in them in my opinion. Those black sleeveless Rockies uniforms look incomplete, like the sleeves just haven't been added yet. Do I really need to see that much undershirt? No. It's like a wierd clash of traditional and new style.

I kind of get into uniforms.

I'm with you on this one.

I like tradition as well. I think that some teams that aren't deep in tradition tend to change uniforms more.

I agree with most of what you said, but not all. I like tge idea of home uniforms being white and road uniforms gray - period. I don't like any of the colored or black jerseys. I've turned on too many games and seen both teams wearing the darker jerseys, and to me it looks more like a rec league softball game then a major league baseball game. My other pet peeve is that the uniforms are no longer "uniform". You've hot guys that wear stirrups and high pants, some that wear stirrups, but have them down so thet appear to have one solid color sock on, and you have the guys that have their pants down to the shoes. I played ball from age 7 until my mid 20's, pee-wee league to very low level minor league ball, and we always looked the same. Our pants were at the same level, we all wear the same color undershirts, we kept our jerseys tucked in, and we all either wore stirrups or we didn't. Maybe it's old fashioned, but I've always thought that professionals in any field should dress the part, whether it be a dark suit for an undertaker, a robe for a clergyman, or a uniform for an athlete. In the major leagues, half of the players look like they have either been through a war in their uniforms (filthy caps, batting helmets, etc.) or are wearing a hand me down from a big brother. I think that the athletes of today have gotten so much more into themselves that they have forgetton what it means to be a team player, and I think it is reflected in the lack of uniformity in the way they are dressed.
I say, go back to nothing but white and gray. Leave the batting practice jerseys in the locker room once the game starts, and leave your pajamas at home.
(Words from a player old enough to have actually worn a flannel uniform )

Don't know about only white/grey... I like the Giants' home cream uniforms and the Padres' road sand uniforms.

I also hate alternate uniforms, moreover, I hate teams who wear the alternates too much, like when the Padres went to San Francisco for a 3 game series, I was looking forward to seeing those 2 great uniforms, but the Padres wore their blue jerseys for ALL 3 GAMES. The Mets do this, too. I like teams who don't have alternates, such as the Giants, Yankees, Dodgers, etc... Maybe the home team should decide what jerseys the opposing team wears for the games from now on.

I believe in tradition also. As to abbreviation the NY Metropolitans always said Mets not Metropolitans, but there is only one team that has never changed their uniform and that's the NY Yankees they wear the same home ad away uniform today they did since the team was formed.

I tend to agree. Home unis should be all white and road unis of gray or off wjite (cream - SF or sand - SD). On the uni should either be the teams name, city or a logo.
...I don't care for the "alternative" unis.
...All shirts should have sleeves.
...Pants should not gp below mid-calf (I hate the way they look pulled all the way down!)
...I never really cared for or understood stirrups (even though I did wear them for all my years playing), but they should be a color consistant with the unis and if pants had to be above mid-calf it would look ok.
