the cubs havent won in 99 years. theyre perennially mismanaged. the yankees on the other hand i would think have to know better. have won nothing this year, been booted by the tigers and indians. why didnt steinbummer and cashman get rid of those not going to return in 08 for more prospects?? they couldnt have gotten anything for pettite, giambi, abreu, rivera, aholerod, posada??? despite their nice run this year, the yankees havent been signing anyone big for a while.. theyve been going after prospects.. now, theyre gonna get nothing. that makes them a mismanaged team. i bet most if not all leave with torre, and not put up with the bs...the brass had to know deep down inside they werent gonna win this year.. mussina. 80 mph fastball... please. 45 year old pitcher with a sore elbow, who only plays half a year... please.. even i know you arent gonna win with that... please read my whole comment/premise of my question.. its not about the manager, its the management... |

The Yankees. This is probably it for Joe Torre, but they should still have bad coaching. I wouldn't put it past Steinbrenner right now to have A-Rod be player coach. Yankees are mismanaged. My prediction is Tony La Russa will manage the Yankees in 2008 and Joe Torre will manage his former team he played for and managed, the St. Louis Cards in 2008, a managerial swap You can't be serious with this question. The Yankees are the only team to be a dynasty post free agency. Yeah it's been a while since they've won a championship but since they've last won a World Series only one other team has even been to the WS as many times as the Yankees. I'm a Yankee fan and unlike the Boss I'm happy the way things are. Yes I would have loved to win it all EVERY year, but it's not easy to get to the playoffs 13 straight years let alone win in the playoffs that many times. I've still seen more titles for my team than any other team has even been to the World Series in that time period. I refuse to hold my head low. I think the Yankees definitely. With Lou Piniella the Cubs manager, anything is possible. He brings a strong winning attitude to a clubhouse that hasn't had that since 2003. Joe Torre will probably be leaving New York and nobody knows who could take over that position, but everybody knows that the winning attitude that Torre brings is probably going to disappear. The front office in New York can't make up there mind over whether they want experience or youth and talent. All season they seemed to settle on prospects, but once the offseason comes they want to bring in the big guns. Its a tie. the cubs have waited, what a century for a championship? and the yankees have too much money for no titles in seven years!!!! The Cubs and Yankees should trade managers to try something new. Are you talking about mis managed from the ownership point of view? or manager point of view? I'll break it down its easier for me to concentrate... The difference to me in the Yankees and the Cubs is that the Yankees have been willing to go that extra mile in the past. As a Yankee fan you know that they have and are willing to spend money to get who they consider the big names in the game to help their cause. Maybe they are changing their approach a little bit and realizing you can't always buy World Championships. If anything as a Yankees fan I would look at that as a positive change of direction than just throwing massive amounts of money down the toilet. I have always been a firm believer that you need to build from within your organization and use free agency to add complimenting pieces, not the other way around. As a Yankees fan you would always know those deep pockets are there. i say the yankees GM a 200Million dollar payroll and you cant get out of the 1st round of the playoffs? hes got to be getting ripped off somewhere From a pure baseball standpoint, I think the Cubs are way more mismanaged. They committed about $400 million in payroll to win 85 games this year. While both teams looked terrible in the playoffs, at least the Yankees have had a pretty damn successful run over the last 10 or 12 years, where as the Cubs basically have 1 playoff series win since 1945. But, I will also say that the Cubs have been incredibly well-managed (and I'm surprised my head didn't just explode using "Cubs" and "well-managed" in the same sentence) from a purely business standpoint. They have done such a good job of selling the 'Wrigley Field Experience" that 3 million boneheads (myself included) will go see the Cubs year in and year out regardless of whether they win 100 games or lose 100. The Yankees have outdrawn them, but if they had had the history that the Cubs have had, they would probably see a huge decrease in their ticket sales, whereas the Cubs will always draw well. A lot of the guys you mentioned as possibly trading they could not have gotten a lot for, who is going to take their contracts. Posada was having a career year and they plan to have him back next year so they are not going to trade him. They are at least going at things with a plan and sticking to that plan. The Cubs for years have run around like chickens with their heads cut off in their moves, no one can figure out what they are trying to build...most of all the their management, they have no clue what they are trying to accomplish. You said it yourself the yankees have not been spending as haphazardly since the reigns on the checkbook have been turned over to Cashman, he has committed to building the way they did for the last championship run, through the minor leagues! Do you think there is a great market for Rivera at this point? He is 38, throwing beach balls at the plate and not able to adjust to get guys out. Perhaps the Yankees. The cubs went out last year and spent a great deal of money to improve their team but in the end their pitching still failed them. I am a Phillies fan and it is the same issue great hitters but little quality pitching. In the end I think the Yankees who also failed because of pitching will correct their problems quicker than the Cubs. |
