| Mlb playoff format can a wild card team play its own division winner? |
|
Not in the first round of the playoffs. The wildcard team will play against the team with the best record as long as it is not a team from their division. They could and have played in the second round for the championship series. |

no no yes, if the division winner has the best record in the league than the wild card from that division will play its own division winner. Yes, it is possible. The wildcard always plays the team with the best record for that league. Be it American or National league. So, it is possible. Since you've gotten conflicting answers, the answer is not in the Division Series. For instance, if the Tigers win the Central with the best record and the White Sox get the wild card, the Sox would play the next-best division winner, with the Tigers getting the worst division winner. No, the rules dont allow that. Not in the first round, but in the LCS they can. Boston and New York have had very memorable ALCS matchups recently. not in the first round In the first round.. The Wild Card team will visit the team with the best record NOT in their own division.. If Today were the end of the season and the White Sox had the wild card.. they would open up in New York and Detroit would host Oakland.. not in the first round... I hate this rule. No. Wildcard plays the team w/ the best record in the league who is not in their own division. And they will also be the visiting team even if they have a better record than the pathetic AL West division champion. |
