I was watching ESPN the last couple of days and the top story continues to be the Yankees and Joe Torre. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against the Yankees, however, I live in California so I'm pretty indifferent about teams on the East Coast. The Yankees are a great story and one of the great dynasties in sports. So they will continue to live on in sports history.

What I want to know is, why is it that the Yankees, Red Sox, and all the East Coast teams get all the coverage all the time? It seems as though the media only cares about the east coast while the rest of us are completely ignored. I live in California and you never see a west coast team get any coverage on ESPN.

Why can't the Indians get their moment in the sun? Aren't they the ones who advanced to the ALCS? Is it really the end of baseball if Joe Torre, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettite, Mariano Rivera don't return?

I have to agree with the Indian fans about how they are treated unfairly by the media. Lets face it...I'm a baseball fan but the only Indians I know of are Grady Sizemore, CC Sabathia, Travis Hafner, and Kenny Lofton. Out here in San Francisco we don't really hear much about the Indians. Except for a couple of players.

There wasn't a baseball team west of the Mississippi until 1958, when the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and the Giants moved from New York to San Francisco.

Meaning, the "East Coast Bias" you describe is also known as tradition.

Also, The Yankees are known all over the world, not just in the U.S. like the Indians, D-backs and the Rockies.

Even though ESPN claims to be a national sports network, they are not even close. Sitting in Bristol Conn. Most of the personalities are Yankee or Red Sox fans, so they talk about what they know. Its why they always pick New York or Boston to win it all. They dont research the other teams and have no idea of the talent around the country. And that goes for all sports. GO TRIBE !!!

The east coast teams have the most money. That may or may not mean they have the most fans, but either way they do have the most money. That might have something to do with it.

Amen to your entire post. As an Indians fan, I asked myself that very same question about why the Indians can't get their moment in the sun. The Indians advance to the ALCS but the top story is Torre. Think ESPN would have done a reversal if Larry Dolan had said either Mark Shapiro or Eric Wedge are fired if the Indians do not take the series? Heck - most people do not even know who they are. We do not get to see much of west coast teams, probably because of the time differential. When the Indians play on the west coast, the newspapers are not updated...etc. due to the time difference. A "sports" station like ESPN needs to cut the bias, all the way around. Before the Indians won the AL Central, ESPN announcers said if the Indians did not win it by winning outright they could sneak in the back door with Tigers losses -at that point Cleveland just had to win one game or Detroit lose one game. However, the Indians had a SEVEN game lead in the division so wtf was that about sneaking in the back door? These announcers are so biased it is sickening. It is not just dissing the west coast but any team not NY or Boston or maybe even Atlanta and that is really wrong.

The Yankees, Red Sox and Mets are the largest market teams followed by the majority of fans, thus the widespread coverage.

Just to help you understand...baseball started in the East Coast. U guys got added years later. Therefore the East Coast gets the attention.

Yeah that is where all the money is at. I watched Baseball tonight and they called the Indians "pesky"! I am so tired of the Yankees! Its like no one will admit that the better team won. I will admit that Torre is a good manager, but still, there are bigger and better things to talk about than what is going to happen in the off season with the Yanks. We got the NLCS and the ALCS to talk about. Even on Yahoo Sports that's all they talked about I had to go to Cleveland.com for a good story on the Indians.

They love to talk about the Yankees. It has always been that way. If that happened in California, it would hardly be mentioned.

I understand and agree with your assessment. I'm a Yankee fan and I'm getting sick of all the melodrama unfolding in the Bronx.

The only notable west coast story this season has been the Barry Bonds steroid issue which obviously doesn't reflect 99.99% of baseball on the "left" coast.

The Indians have become a non-factor in this sceniaro and that's unfair. The beat the favored Yankees and are now playing for the AL Championship.

You must remember however that baseball, at least compare to todays franchises was only a league of 16 original teams. They were primarily played in the eastern half of the United States.

As far as the media is concerned, old habits are hard to break. Baseball, unlike other sports, is based on its rich history and most of that history is from those original 16 teams.

I also am a die hard Yankee fan,and i agree with you! This should be the Indian's time to shine! they should have full coverage,I'm tired of all this Yankee drama! I swear i think Stienbrenner does this crap to pull attention away from the winning teams! Saying he's gonna fire Torre! But not making anything finial yet! just to keep the media focused on his yankees,and the drama behind the club!

Joe Torre's time in New York has come and gone, along with Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and quite possibly Alex Rodriguez. Brian Cashman has his work cut out for him; he has to re-sign the former greats for market value, not what the players think their value is. If Cashman lets some or all of these stars walk, we're going to see a couple things happen. Some owners will overpay the former Yankees and then watch them under perform. Meanwhile, the Yankees will outbid the rest of MLB for some big-name free agents such as Andruw Jones and/or Torii Hunter. Regardless we can close the chapter on this Yankees era.
