Sandy koufax: 6-time all-star, 3 cy young awards, NL MVP, 3 triple crowns, 5 ERA titles, 3 wins titles, 4 no-hitters, a perfect game, 4 strikeout titles, 2 world series MVPs, 40 shutouts |

Is there really any comparison? Koufax easily. |

I would take Koufax every time. I know this is a biased opinion but i think Lefty Carlton is the greatest of all time(I am from Philly). I mean he led some horrible teams here, e.g. he had 27 wins for a team with 56 total wins. He is third(?) i believe in Ks. I may be wrong but I believe for the most part Sandy was on a great team most of his carrear, while Lefty was on some misarable teams until Schmidt, Bowa, and Luzinski came up. He would have had more wins had he been on another team. However, they both would be fantastic on about any team. Sandy Koufax No one was more dominating than Koufax when he was in his prime, but Carlton had staying power. One game, winner takes all, give me Koufax. Building a franchise, I'll take Carlton. Koufax is considered the best. I'll take Randy Johnson. Koufax supporters always, ALWAYS avoid discussing the first half of his career, when he sucked. Yeah, he was great once the team moved into Dodger Stadium, and it wasn't only the park that gave him his success. But he certainly benefited from favorable circumstances. Warren Spahn -- nuff said. I think most experts would say Koufax was the better pitcher. koufax had 4 consecutive great seasons from '63-'66 in which he had an average ERA of +/-1.85. From '55-'61 he was adequate and in '62 he was very good but I wouldn't term it great. |
