What is the worst franchise in the history of MLB?

NO BIASED ANSWERS PLEASE.

Since 1900 the Philadelphia Phillies are 7677-8948 which is a .462 winning percentage. They have a total of 5 pennants and 1 World Series win.

I am eliminating any expansion team as they do not have enough history to be considered the worst franchise in the history of MLB.

Philadelphia Phillies. Final answer.

White Sox! I HATE THEM I HATE THEM!

The Phillies

But the Devil Rays will end up as the worst ever at the end of time, well from this era.

Actually, yes it is the whiney sux.
They threw the 1919 World Series for a few dimes.

Philledelphia Philles

On the sheer matter of technicality... I have to say the Wasington Senators.

They exisisted TWICE and moved away BOTH times (To become the Minnesota Twins and then again to become the Texas Rangers.

Hell, D.C. got a team ONE more time and rather than continue the tradition and make them the Senators for a THIRD time... they decided to buck the trend and go with the Nationals.

Let's see if they can keep THIS franchise!

i don't know ,either

The Devil Rays. They have only not finished in last place 1 time in 9 years of existence.

The Philadelphia Phillies are quickly approaching 10,000 losses, the most for any professional team in any sport. I would say that makes them a good candidate for the worst team.

Worst can be defined in a number of ways. Possibly the most consistently horrible team in baseball history was the St. Louis Browns. While other teams have broken their record for losses (the Mets and the Royals) they were aided by weaker expansion rosters and a longer season.

My grandfather was a sports reporter, and was quite firm about the Browns. The only things they are famous for is when owner Bill Veeck sent in a midget named Eddie Gaedel in to pinch hit (he walked) and winning the World Series in 1944 because all their starters were 4F, and the other teams lost theirs for the war.

They have done better since the move to Baltimore, but as the Browns they set a standard for bad play that we may never see again, unless you count T ball.

Da cubs. 100 years and counting

St. Louis Browns

Montreal Expos

Seattle Pilots.

Sucked for one full season, then got bought out by Seligula and moved to Milwaukee.

The Pilots, history's little orphan team.

Since the Phillies have indeed now reached a 10,000 loss record...I would have to vote for them. They aren't a team I hate or like so this is unbiased, based only on their loss record.

Chicago Cubs Suck. The Phillies at least won a world series in the past 100 years!!!!!

The Philadelphia Philthies.

But here's what the statistics show at the conclusion of last season:

0.567New York Yankees
0.540San Francisco Giants
0.524Los Angeles Dodgers
0.517St. Louis Cardinals
0.515Boston Red Sox
0.513Chicago Cubs
0.511Cleveland Indians
0.508Cincinnati Reds
0.507Pittsburgh Pirates
0.506Chicago White Sox
0.506Detroit Tigers
0.504Atlanta Braves
0.500Houston Astros
0.499Arizona Diamondbacks
0.495Toronto Blue Jays
0.491Los Angeles Angels
0.488Kansas City Royals
0.486Oakland Athletics
0.483Washington Nationals
0.481Minnesota Twins
0.477New York Mets
0.477Baltimore Orioles
0.473Florida Marlins
0.471Milwaukee Brewers
0.470Seattle Mariners
0.468Texas Rangers
0.467Philadelphia Phillies
0.465Colorado Rockies
0.461San Diego Padres
0.398Tampa Bay Devil Rays

(14 hours later) BTW, the winning percentage of each team is for it's entire existence as a franchise. EX: the Phillies record includes the first three years as the Worcester Brown Stockings.

The St.Louis Browns.

Chicago Cubs. They haven't won a world series in 99 years! Thats rediculous. They Cubs just aren't that good. I know they might make they playoffs twice every ten years but they get knocked out the first round every time. They suck period. Sorry to all you Cubbie Fans.

GO BRAVES!!

yep the white sox or the black sox theres many teams that have done worse in games won or lost but throwing away a series for money is weak

to me they are the worst team

The Cubs because they had the money, the fans , the city , the players and a great ball park to play in and they did nothing with it. I'll bet you if you put the bottom feeding Devil Rays in that situation for 10-15 years they'd at the very least a division championship to show for it,

Philadelphia Phillies Fact Established in 1883, Fact lost 10,000 Games, Fact Have 33 Losing Seasons from 1916-1949, Fact they won 5 Pennants 1915, 1950, 1980, 1983, 1993, Fact Won the World Series Once in 1980 and fact the MVP of the World Series that year Mike Schmidt one of six Hall of Famers to wear a Phillies Uniform.

phillies just lost their 1000th game, they're the worst by far

I would have to go with david l and say the St. Louis Browns. However, they did not win the 1944 World Series, they lost to the Cardinals.
