| Joe Torre is he history or back again in 2008? |
|
sound off on the demise of the yankees. |

Joe Torre's time in New York has come and gone, along with Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and quite possibly Alex Rodriguez. Brian Cashman has his work cut out for him; he has to re-sign the former greats for market value, not what the players think their value is. If Cashman lets some or all of these stars walk, we're going to see a couple things happen. Some owners will overpay the former Yankees and then watch them under perform. Meanwhile, the Yankees will outbid the rest of MLB for some big-name free agents such as Andruw Jones and/or Torii Hunter. Regardless we can close the chapter on this Yankees era. |

At first I was leaning towards an 80% probability he was staying. Now, I'm barely above 50%... not a yankees fan (I like torre) but he will leave on his own soon.... i can't see the boss actually firing him... It's too bad that the manager always gets blamed for players not producing. Don't get me wrong... I'm a Yankee fan from the early 70's and endured the saddest period in recent Yankee history. I can almost guarantee that if Joe goes, so will most of the stars on this great team. Does he not get thanks for even getting them to the playoffs after being eulogized by everyone in May and June?? What about the 13 straight playoff appearances?? Let's not mention winning the East every year since 1995!!! If you can't merit him for all this, then maybe he should walk away. He's done. I'm rooting for Joe Girardi or Tony LaRussa (in that order) to take over at the helm. The team needs a kick in the pants. They have gotten soft, enjoying the warm, fuzzy atmosphere there. Time to let go of dead weight (i.e. Giambi), re-sign Posada, Rivera, and A-Rod, and acquire Johan Santana to lead a rotation with him, Pettitte, Wang, Hughes, and Kennedy. How Chamberlain fits in all this depends on what happens to Rivera and if Santana does get to begin wearing pinstripes. And get some real hitting and pitching coaches, not glimpses of Yesteryear. I say he goes but he won't be unemployed long. Other teams will seek his services based on his past winning record and how well he does with his players. If I were him I'd tell Steinbrenner to shove his job right up his @#$%^^&!. Then I'd tell, him what I really thought. Joe is to good of a person to be treated like this. I wish he would walk away on his own terms, instead of the loudmouth, classless owners terms. |
