Who was the 1st baseball player to earn $1,000,000 ayear?

I think it was Nolan Ryan back in the late 70's or early 80's when he was with the Astros

Kevin Brown, 7 years at 15 mil a year was my favourite Report It

Adam was right. Nolan Ryan signed the first $1 million per year contract when he left the Angels and signed with the Astros in 1979.

Rod Carew

I thought it was Reggie Jackson
edit
it was Ryan..

According to the internet I got Nolan ryan the pitcher as the first player to earn a million dollars in a year in baseball. Ryan played 1966 to 1993 and could through pitches around 100mph!. Its amazing how some of them get paid now a days though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nolan_Ryan

Yes, it was Nolan Ryan in 1979. It would take only three more years before George Foster cracked the $2m mark, and things have only gotten crazier since then.
