he controls what pitchers throw to hitter and calls the game...why do you think dodgers have their franchise best ERA this year from the past 8 years and one of the TOP 5 OVERALL IN THE MLB THIS YEAR???

he calls for pitchouts if runners get on base and slows them down

he throws out runner (top 3 in the league) if they try stealing on him..He's got a cannon arm

Hitting...dudes got foul pole to foul pole power...he can hit the ball in all parts of the field. He can hit line drives like crazy...he hit an 0-2 ball of Randy Johnson at Arizona straight over Center Field about 425 feet for a 2 out 3 run home run

one of the top guys in knocking in runners from scoring position ...especialy with 2 outs and in late game situations (7th inning or later)

He's THE FASTEST CATCHER IN THE LEAGUE! HE has 16 Stolen bases already at mid point of the season

He hits for average as well and he hits singles and doubles and doesn't strike out much

He;s the dodgers leader in average and rbi's



ALL time would be Willie Mays...dude can do it all hit, steal, power, etc etc etc....he was the best defensive player EVER TO PLAY THE GAME OF BASEBALL

If you're talking about all-time, I'm going with Willie Mays. If you're talking about current players, I'm going with Alex Rodriguez.

All time my vote is Willie Mays...great hitter, awesome on the bases and probably the best defensive outfielder of all time on top of everything else. If Babe Ruth played defense even close to as good as Willie then I'd give it to him instead, but he was nowhere near what Willie could do with a glove. Of current players I'm gonna say Albert Pujols slightly over A-Rod. He hasn't had the year A-Rod has, but compare them at the same point in their careers and Albert is right there with him. I'd also give the nod to Albert defensively at this point since Alex isn't nearly as good at third as he was at short. I know third is a harder position than first, but Albert is in the top 5 when it comes to first baseman, which you can't say for A-Rod at third.

Sad answer but I'd have to say Bonds is definitely the best hitter of all time. Yes better than Ruth and here is why. The crap that he was taking does not and I repeat DOES NOT make your hand-eye coordination any better. It does not make you see better or give you quicker hands. It does however make a 350ft, to the warning track shot a 410ft HR. ESPN did a compression as if Bonds stayed with the Pirates. They did not say if he did roids but only if he was still with the Pirates, the pre-roid Bonds.

He would still have been in the 600 HR range. think of it.
