Terry Francona's future?

What is your opinion of Terry's decision this post-season?
It seems to me he is over confident or too loyal to his players to play some one (Ellsbury) who will actually produce. Granted Ellsbury doesn't have the experience but the kid was on fire the whole month of Sept.

Nancy Drew, Lugo and Crisp haven't done anything. Why he doesn't put Ellsbury in blows my mind.

Also what about throwing Buckholz or Lester in to pitch???

Do you think Terry will be fired if they lose the series tonight for not making some of those decisions??

What is your opinion?

No, Francona won't be fired if the Red Sox lose this series.

But, you're right about the loyalty factor, and how misguided it has become in certain terms. It's all well in good for a manager to have an unwavering faith in the players he has been given, but sometimes he has to distinguish the difference between hoping for the best, as opposed to doing what is conceivably for the better of his ballclub.

In other words, thinking with his mind, and not allowing such decisions to be dictated by the goodness of his heart.

Buchholz is definitely a big part of the future, so making sure his shoulder is rested and perserved after a full season was the right choice...that was an organizational decision, not solely in Francona's court.

So, even though Francona hasn't managed particularly well in this series, he's still safe and secure...

The same as Joe Torre's.

He will stay in Boston.

I'll take Coco back too, if you don't want him.

Well if that's all you got...I think the answer is obvious he will stay...Buckholz isn't on the roster...as for the rest you go with what got you there...its not the manager not managing its the players not playing...that's the problem !!!

Big spending under-achievers!! All of them!

@ D Cleveland - why would you want Coco back? He sucks.

You can't blame Terry for starting the guys that got them there. Drew's numbers in the postseason are about the same as the regular season so that's all you can expect. Buckholz isn't on the roster because of a tired arm. Ellsbury is a question mark because he has limited experience in the majors but I do agree he should get the start tonight. If Terry did what you've suggested from the start of the playoffs and the Red Sox were in this same situation he would deserve more of the blame if you ask me. As a manager you can't deviate from what's worked for you all season. Heck we won the division for the first time in a while and tied for the best record in baseball. I just can't blame Terry when we have just simple been out played for the last 3 games.

He has no worry. He will be there next year.
