Baseball: Walk-off walk ruling.?

During a little little league game, there were bases loaded in the bottom of the last inning. The batter received a walk and the runner from third came in and crossed the plate. However, the batter never went to 1st base. Instead he celebrated with the team at the plate and went into the dugout. I (1st baseman) saw this and told the ump that he was out of the baseline. Is the run disallowed?

Not sure about Little League rules, but I'll assume it's the same as MLB rules in this case. Little League Baseball has chosen to make people pay to obtain the Rules, so I'll go with MLB here.

The batter must go to first base to complete the base on balls. If he refuses to go to first base, he should be called out. If this is the third out, the run would NOT score, and the game would continue. If this is NOT the third out, then the run counts.

Here's the rule from MLB Rule 4.09(b) Comment, Penalty:

"...If, with two out, the batter-runner refuses to advance to and touch first base, the umpire shall disallow the run, call out the offending player, and order the game resumed. If, before two are out, the batter-runner refuses to advance to and touch first base, the run shall count, but the offending player shall be called out..."

AGAIN, I'm not sure if the LL rule differs from this, but I'll guess it does not. The scoring runner should not be penalized for the actions of the batter if there are less than two out.

dude who cares games ovr Report It

Yeah, I know what you mean about being nitpicky, but then again, never hurts to learn the rules! Report It

technically, the batter is out

well im thinking that in this case the batter would be out...it depends though i need more details. but from this the person who got the walk never touched 1st so technically im thinking hes out.

You're kids.
Yes, you should follow rules, but this is being a bit too concerned with the rules at the expense of some joy.
If he had been hit in the head and knocked out, for example, he doesn't have to run to first.
On the other hand, if he was celebrating too much, I suppose I might have done the same thing.
