Baseball & Football rules??

I just started catching an american sport satellite channel , it mainly show baseball and football 24/7.
My Question is :
1- can you explain baseball rules in a simple way, and why the scoring table is like six feet long??
2-in football, what's the deal with the yards count, any recipe for "football for dummies"?
Thank you

Baseball: The objective is to score as more runs than the opposing team. A run is scored when a player sucessfully rounds all 4 bases without being put out. There are 9 players on defense in the field and 9 on offense (these 9 come to home plate individually, "batters", to face a pitcher 60.5 feet away). The pitcher throws the ball to the batter. If the batter hits the ball in fair territory he begins to round the bases. The batter may stop at any base before he is put out. The next batter tries to advance that player around the bases to home plate therefor scoring a run. The offense attempts to get as many players across home plate before 3 outs are made. When 3 outs are made the other team comes to bat and gets 3 outs to make their attemps to get runs. Those 6 outs are called an inning. There are 9 of these innings.

Football: The objective is to score more points that the other team. Points can be scored 3 ways (a field goal, when you kick the ball through the goal posts - 3, a safety when you tackle the offense in the endzone - 2, and a touchdown when you get the ball across the goal line by run or throw - 6, after a touchdown you can get extra points-- 1 for kicking it through the goal posts or 2 for running or throwing it). The offense has four plays to move the ball 10 yards and get another set of four plays.

There are too many rules in baseball to lay out for you here, but you can look it up on Wikipedia. As for the scoring table, it's all the necessary things you need to know about the game at all times. There's the score, which bases are occupied, the inning, the pitch count and number of outs. All of those are things you'll need to know to keep up with the game.

The scoring table consists of 9 innings - that's why it's so long.

In football, you get 4 downs - or plays - to gain 10 yards forward. When you gain 10 or more yards, you receive another set of downs - 4 more plays.

That's just a basic description though, you might want to google or yahoo search baseball and football.
