Joba Rules?

i was watrching espn and it like had thses rules 4 joba chamberlain. like for every innging pitch he has to have a day off.
what were those rules and who came up with them

For the immediate future, the Yankees plan to use Chamberlain as a bridge from their starting pitching to their closer, Mariano Rivera (the broadcasters have compared Chamberlain's role to Rivera's in 1996 as the primary setup man to John Wetteland). In the long run, Joba is expected to break into the starting rotation. Manager Joe Torre and the Yankee organization has come up with a set of guidelines which Yankee's broadcaster Michael Kay refers to as "Joba Rules". They state Chamberlain will only come into a game to start an inning, and that he must get a day of rest for each inning pitched, both prior to and following the game in which he pitches. This is used to protect his arm because he has never relieved before in his career, and Yankee manager, Joe Torre, has a reputation of over using relief pitchers.

The ''Joba Rules'' were invented by a minor league coach and of course can always be changed. Joba Chamberlain is the future of the Yankees along with Phillip Hughes, it would be best to protect his arm so they can convert him later next year into a starting pitcher role.

Those are Yankee Rules.
Its going to be a war in Boston next month because of that beaning ordeal last night. I cant wait!!

The Yankees organization put those stipulations on Joba to protect his arm. He and Hughes are the future of the staff and they want to keep them fresh and their arms live.

Brian Cashman gave these rules to Joe Torre when Joba was promoted to the Yankees.

They were rules given from the Yankees minor league manager...if he pitches an inning he gets the next day off...if he pitches two innings he gets the next two days off and so on.

Basically, Chamberlain has always been a starter. When he was promoted to the yankees they needed him in the bullpen. the organization didn't want to ruin his arm by having him pitch too often. It is a lot more stress full to pitch 1 inning each on three consecutive days than it is to pitch 7 -8 innings every 5 days because the arm doesn't get a chance to recover. Relievers learn how to warm up and how to keep their arms healthy in that role.

The Yankees also looked at Jon Papelbon of the Red Sox. He was also a starter who got converted into a closer and had a stunningly effective year but went down to injury at the end of the season. At the time, some thought his career might have been in jeopardy. The Yanks didn't want that to happen to Joba.

The Yankees organization put those rules together to keep his arm up at its prime every time he comes out. This said, i think the rules are bogus. he's in is early twenties and doesn't need to be babied.

they are just being safe with a great prospect like joba.

Yankees decided this.

now let me point that out it is one inning, pitched one day off, two innings pitched, two days off, and so on. jaba was in his second inning, and was suspended for two games, so rly its doing nothing cuz he wouldnt pitch anyway.
