I just one of those Yahoo alerts for the Cardinals that talked about them raising ticket prices on some of the packages for 2008. What floored me is that they have 28,000 STH for a stadium that holds under 44k!
Here in Cincinnati, they average only 24k a game TOTAL! And they are supposedly a baseball town. St. Louis, with a metro population of 2.5 million draws over 3.5 million every year - a mathematical enigma. Sure both NY teams and the Dodgers draw over 4 mil each, but they have populations over 10 million, or less than 40% (80% if you want to combine them), but we're talking 140% with just ONE team and KC and Chicago being 300+ miles away!
What gives with the rest of the 29 teams outside the Gateway City?

Ah my friend, St. Louis Cardinals baseball is special. You could really equate them to being the Green Bay Packers of MLB. Small town, really, but so passionate about their Cardinals or Packers, respectively and they break all the rules.
Cincinnati is a fine town, too and has good fans but when the Cards play there, half the place is filled with Cardinal fans. Cardinal fans are everywhere.
That's why Bud Selig called the Cardinals organization an "emerald". For my money, the St. Louis Cardinals are the finest organization in sports. I know I'm not alone there.
