I saw an episode of "Dirty Jobs" that showed that all MLB baseballs are rubbed with a "pitching mud"?

Is this really true and if so, where can one get some of this mud? I am an Asst little league coach and this might help our control problems.

It is true. Every Major League Baseball hase been rubbed down by Lena Blackburne Rubbing Mud from the Delaware River since 1938.

It is used to prepare new baseballs for use, by taking the sheen off of them.

You can order it through their website;

I would not expect it to have any effect on little league control issues, but then again, if the kids think it makes a difference then it probably will.

Like Yogi said, "90% of the game s half mental".

A little mud slapped on a ball ain't gonna matter one iota
at the little league level.
Good coaching and an emphasis on basic baseball
mechanics will do far more.

It's special mud. It is true. The umps do this to get the glisten off of the ball. Every ball is rubbed up before the game. I'm sure you can find a way to get some of the "special" mud that they use.
