Yesterday I pissed off my baseball coach who kept on telling me to keep my hands up yet I dont want to do it. I personally feel uncomfortable doing so yet he wouldnt understand. Why does this coach (plus some others) tell me to put my hands up? Is there any advantage in that? Tomorrow he wants to have a little talk with me and I really need support for why I want my hands shoulder level. thisis for hitting plus I thought where my hands are is a matter of comfort. If u dont believe me wqatch a baseball game; there are variations of where the batters' hands are, not all of them hold their hnds up. |

I have no idea why the coach would force you to have a batting stance that feels uncomfortable. Look at all the big league guys and you will see almost no batting stance, style is the same. the only thing I could think of is maybe the higher the hands, the more likely you will swing level. Do you see any improvement in your swing when you hit? |

hands up doing wat? He is the coach, just do what he says, and when it doesnt work for you show him in a friendly manor that your way is better for you Putting your hands up will help you defend better against opponents. With your hands blocking their view, it is harder for them to get off a pass against you. your hands should be shoulder level and the bat should be vertical, not horizontal and waving around up above your shoulders. to do what??????????? You need to have your hands up there so that you can hit the ball down and hard or line drives. If you start with your hands low, you will dip your shoulder and only hit weak pop ups. So if you have them up you will generate more power and just have a better looking swing. You should probably just listen and try to correct it. It will take time so dont get frustrated and eventually you will get use to it and start hitting a lot better to. he is the coach i am sure there is a reason he is telling you that just do it and quit crying about it your swing obviously need improvment or he would be telling you to change it. Are you dipping your hand when the pitch is thrown? I've seen plenty of hitters that do this and it tends to lead to being late on your swing. Ask him to explain to you what your doing wrong. Hands up? Meaning above shoulder level? I explained the fundamental swing in another post on the baseball page. Look for the question about a comfortable batting stance. You have to give the fundamentals a chance and have some success with it before you start changing things, or your altered stance will likely fail. Sorry, no support from me, a guy who played for 12 years and now coaches, listen to your coach. hes the coach and what hes says goes.Stop bein a baby and do it right |
