Is Lou Piniella crazy to want to coach the Cubs?

Sweet Lou knows what he's doing. He's been the majors for so long now... player, manager, GM... he always seems happiest when he is in the mix of things. (Fighting, throwing things, screaming at the umpire, etc.)

Plus, there is talk that A-Rod might be a possible trade to the Cubs. I know that when Lou managed Alex in Seattle, they always got along very well. Besides, if Alex does decide to leave NY, the Yankees probably won't allow it to be another AL team, so the Cubs would be a good match. Lou, I can be almost certain, would welcome a ball player like this.

Not any more so than Dusty Baker

As long as he is not a broadcaster anymore, it is all good with me!

Yes.

Maybe that was the only way he could get paid $10 million for the next 3 years.

Not if the Cubs can sign Barry Zito and Carlos Lee. I think the owners have assured him that the purse strings are off. Otherwise I think he would have passed.

He is not Crazy. Speaking from a coaches perspective, I personally am more intereested when I coach a team that is at the bottom of the pile because they are usually more willing to listen and change where as if you walked on to a team such as the Yankees you would probably get the silent treatment.

You had to be even crazier to want to coach Detroit two years ago. And look at them now.

DUDE,i was thinking the same thing last night, but look at red sox 2 years ago, with new manager ,then last year white sox with ozzie guillen, these year tigers with their skipper,do u see these mini pattern, teams that havent won in long time R winning, conuincidence or what.
maybe he can turn them around a little bit.
give me some credit on the 1st paragraph.

No, not at all. If he leads the Cubbies to a Championship he will
treated like a God, forever. Number 14 is retired for Ernie Banks so I
guess he'll be #41 like when he was with Reds and it was Pete
Rose's #

he is crazy, period. The guy is a nutjob, but he has had his share of inept teams (can u say Devil Rays. go ahead - try it.. there u go.) i think he sees the Cubs as a team with potential

I think he wants a good challange and boy is he going to have his hands full

6 or 7 million a year---thats really crazy-- money.
I'd do it for half that.

I don't believe he's crazy but he sure is very brave to try this job.*

I am guessing that he sees the job as a monumental challenge, and it will be!

No i don't think so,I just heard tonight the cubs are gonna be spending alot of money off season to try to turn the club around. And Lou is just the guy to manage the club,It's time for a change for the Cubs,They need new blood, they want to be contenders,Lou loves a good challenge,Tonight i also heard the Cubs want Arod. It's gonna be a very interesting off season, with all these hiring and firing,of managers,Maybe lou can help that club,he can't do any worse then Dusty!!

crazy like a fox
