Baseball coaching advice needed (6 and 7 year olds) ....?

I recently got asked to assistant coach a coach-pitch baseball team.
Having never played baseball and not really ever been that good at sports I did my best to wriggle out of it but ended up accepting.
The biggest problem I am having is the games....
During the first game as third base coach my runner got out for not tagging up on a fly ball because I didn't see the situation quickly enough. Then as first base coach I sent my runner to 2nd and then because I was focused on the ball the batter ran on to 2nd leaving two runners on 2nd.
I seem to be having particular trouble focusing on multiple events happening at once. I have tried watching baseball on TV but you don't get the big picture there...going to a ball game seems like a good idea but it is so expensive...not to mention time consuming.
Any advice on how to come up to speed quickly ?

wow bro, games aren't that expensive, just go watch a game in the outfield, those tickets are under $20. And if you think its time-consuming, you shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

You need to watch a bunch of games before, learn about all the stuff you need to know for little league. Watch a few major league games, then watch like 1 or 2 little league ones. Look for the differences in the game and try to follow every play.

go to a minor league game. theyre inexpensive, and the players need fans in the seats. Baseball isnt all that complicated once you understand the rules, and just like everything else, practice makes perfect. I would say youre doing fine. It seems youre learning something new every day. Keep watching baseball, youll pick up the intracasies real quick. good luck

There are also some training tapes for coaches that you can watch to help you. They are sold at sporting goods stores. Don't stress out too much, you are learning just like they are. Everyone is there to enjoy the game. Try not to get too upset with yourself.

Now......Play ball!

Sign up for MLB.TV.com. You can watch any game from the past 2yrs at any time you want. The NY Yankee broadcasters are very good at explaining baseball situations.

get a sports info movie do you do drills with them? that helps wats wrong with them?

Is there a local college or high school nearby? Ask their coach where he gets some of his drills and coaching tips. Also ask some of the parents that wouldn't coach the team for some practice time help. Put them to work. Make sure to have a writtten plan for each and every practice. Other teams want to win, but they also want to play a skilled team, which makes their team better. So ask another coach for some skill drills and maybe they will even let you sit in the dugout with them during a game to see how they work a game. For a great drills site, go to yahoo.com sports and coaching for baseball. You wont believe how many useful drills there are. Have fun and don't freak out so much. As long as the kids are learning and having fun, you're doing fine.
