I am trying to coach my little brother in baseball. The kid is deadly accurate but doesn't have awhole lot of speed. When I was in little league I was the same way. I was wondering if anyone knew any different styles of pitching or tips to increase his speed, or any websites that I could use. Also I didn't know when he should start throwing other types of pitches. He is 11 now... is that to young to teach him breaking balls etc... |

No breaking balls until about 16! A change-up is okay, though! |

pitiching is all legs. ask a power pitcher where he gets his power he will tell you his legs. Work on getting his legs bigger and stronger The best thing is to put him in a community league and watch, or even volunteer to help out so you can help him improve on the field and off the field. Get him in a group community league in his age category and then get involved. Communities are always glad to have the extra support and help. You may want inquire about the NCCP coaching for baseball. It will help you communicate on the level hes at and other kids his age and where they are at, and it will help you learn how to help him by becoming certified as a level 1 through 6 coaching program. Communities are always looking for someone to assist but they require a NCCP program level one to coach. This will help you help him and others as well that are struggling and answer your own question by learning and volunteering as well. I have pitched for 18 years now (I'm 27) and played minor league baseball. Accuracy at the age of 11 is better than speed. Playing catch ALL the time will increase his speed because his muscles will keep being worked and will improve speed. DO NOT have him throwing any curveballs or sliders yet. Give it about 2-3 years because his arm is still maturing and he could end up like Kerry Wood if he starts too early. It's good to see your concerned...I wish I had a big brother like you! Good luck! get the kid into a training facility or a pitching coach. if hes accurate, the coach will help him with speed. he needs to learn changeups too if hes 11. by the time he's 14 or 15, he should learn off speed stuff like curves and especially sliders and sinkers |
