Is Phillip Hughes the future of this franchise or another hyped up prospect who won't deliver? ie. Murphy Pavano(as in Murphy's law, anything that can go wrong, will go wrong) , although not a minor league prospect for the Yanks he was supposed to be the next best thing since sliced bread and has turned out to be a multi million dollar DUD!

Personally... to me this kid is the real deal and watching him gives me goosebumbs. The command this kid has..... unreal!

Yes Indeed. Hughes is a great part of our future. That has been the reason that Yankees have been watching his progress so closely. I actually was surprised that they showed a little panic and called him up. As it turned out it may have been to soon to throw him into the fray. His first game he actually pitched well considering he had a case of the butterflies in the first inning. His second game he showed what the Yankees are so jazzed about. The outcome was horrible but the promise is there. I'll take a hamstring injury over a shoulder or fore arm injury any day.
Pavano, and you know how I feel about him, was a big gamble three years ago to begin with. He had 1 good year with the Marlins and the Yankees front office was drooling over him. There seems to be a unwritten law in baseball where NL pitchers suck when they come over to the AL. This proves to be the case with Murphy although I would have thought he would show more backbone then he has. Pavano's a sissy and the Yankees would do well by putting on irrevocable waivers and refuse to pay the balance of his contract for non-performance.
Remember Katalex we have more youth on our Minors then we've had in recent years so the future is indeed bright.

I think he could be very excellent. if the yankees could get solid pitching, they could be the team they were in the late 90's.

He could be.. with the right coaching, plenty of support and a veteran mentor to guide him.

Hughes- yes I do believe this kid to be the Real Deal as you put it. He shows maturity and composure on the mound. An excellent combination for pitching in the majors

I agree. Command is so much a part of early success in pitching; as a Yankee fan I remember young pitchers coming along that you knew were going to be big winners--Whitey Ford, Andy Petite, Mel Stottlemyre--and what set them apart was control. Occasionally you'll get a young man with a great curve or speed who needs work on improving accuracy; but they take a few years longer to develop.
Hughes appears to me to be for real.

Hughes is the real deal. The Yankees have brought up a lot of young pitchers since Pettitte in 1995, and they have all been terrible. Hughes is different, you can tell just by looking at him, and seeing his face. Most of the guys the Yankees have brought up have had either no fastball or no command. Hughes was at 92-94 all night, and his curve was amazing. The Yankees sent him down in the spring until he got his curve over, and to work on a change up. He froze Texeira in the first inning on a great change up. Sure, he will struggle at times when he comes back, all young pitchers do, that's how they learn. Go look at Clemens's stats from his first two years. But Hughes will be be the number one starter the Yankees haven't had in about 4 years. Finally it looks like the Yankees have developed a great pitcher of their own.

Phil Hughes is DEFINITELY the real deal. Anyone who watched the game saw that he has what it takes to be a Yankee. He has that determined look in his eyes, and he CAN pitch. He pitched a flippin no-hitter 'till he strained his hamstring last night during the 7th inning. You have to admit, for a rookie that got called up from AAA, that's pretty impressive. (And, it's only his second start for the Yankees.) He plays his heart and soul out, and it shows. The command he has, it's actually scary. You're right, it seems unreal. But the Yankees make the unreal REAL.
I totally support Philip Hughes. He IS the next big-time Yankee.

This kid was great!! He had 3 different change up's and wasn't affraid to throw them!! He reminded me of a young roger clemens! it broke my heart when he had to leave the game,I heard he had an xray and his healing won't be a long one! hopfully he'll be back in the lineup in 1 month,,Sweetie learn to read ,,the question stated FELLOW YANKEE FANS

I'm not jumping on his wagon yet ..... seen early injuries screw a lot of ppl up ..... folks I think a higher power may be against the Yank's this year .... maybe some Boston fan sold his soul or something.

OMG! Sox fans, GO AWAY!!!!! ...... Anyways... yes, i think this kid is the real deal as well, but unfortunatley he's now on teh DL for 4-6 weeks. Pitching a no-hitter through 6 innings against a lineup like the Rangers is quite a feat. Don't worry though, he'll be back.

any kid that comes out in his second MLB game and throw 6+ innings of no hit baseball is the real deal to me. I honestly think if he didn't tweak his hamstring, he would've got the no hitter. As for future of the team, too soon to tell, but hes definitely a possibility to be.

I hate the yankees and even i have to admit that hughes is the real deal. The yankees havent been known for creating their own pitchers. But when they do they turn out to be stellar. (Andy Pettite, Mariano Rivera, Ron Guidry)

I think Hughes will make it, and be great someday. He has great stuff and poise and command, and needs no gimmicks to succeed, unlike Daisucky Matzusucka of the Bah-stahn Red Sux.
