Has it been long enough to chant taunts at the 2008 Yankees?

Yankees fans were deprived of their favorite anti-Red Sox chant taunt, "1918", with Boston's 2004 World Series championship. The Yankees, of course, have not taken home the trophy since 2000.

With the drought reaching seven years and counting, is it time to begin retaliatory chants next season? While "two-oo thou-sand" doesn't really scan well, "twen-tieth cen-tury" or "last mill-enn-ium" both work reasonably well, despite aiming a bit high in expecting Yankees fen to grasp the meaning and feel appropriately annoyed and/or diminished, which is what a good taunt should achieve.

Has it been long enough to begin the payback?

Would it be more crushing to impose this during the last season of Yankee Stadium, or be a bit more respectful and wait to sully the new park in 2009 (taking the minute risk that the Yankees win it all in 2008 and short-circuit the opportunity)?

And what about ARod? When was the last time the standing league MVP left his team?

(Actually, it was Rodriguez, getting traded after 2003. The last MVP winner to leave as a free agent was in 1992, some kid named Bonds.)

If Alex leaves, what additional taunts are needed? "M-V-P Gone"? "Al-ex Left Here"?

YEAR-TWO-THOUSAND!! <clap clap clapclapclap>

It's NEVER out of season to taunt the Yankees!!! :)

2000 is hardly the same as 1918.

7 years...86 years. I wonder which is worse?

And what's the obsession with the Yankees not winning a world championship in the 21st century? It's only 2007. It's not like we're at the half century mark.

I happen to have a biased opinion because I hate the Yankees, so I would say yes.

What's this? Boston runs into trouble in the post season, and they have to fall back on the **** talking. Hows this for a Yankees talk: Twen-ty Si-ix. Got a lot better ring to it than: Fo-ou-ou-our.

See those 26 all happened last millennium.

Never to early to give the Yankees crap about something.

Go Sox.

Chipmaker, I usually always respect your very knowledgeable answers and opinions as you are one of the most knowledgeable fans in this section. But this? C'mon...r u serious? As much as I hate the Yankees, none of the teams I cheer for (White Sox, Red Sox), I have no right to taunt them with chants like that. Yeah my White Sox won in 2005, but the Yankees have won 26 before that. No team has had greater success than the Yankees. I still hate them though. "Two-ooo Thous-and!"

EDIT: I figured as much for you to be fully serious with a question like this. You are to intelligent to result to mindless, idle chatter. Still, a funny post nonetheless. I assumed you were being sardonic. It's always fun to mock the Yankees. And I can agree, in Chicago, we got used to losing too. I got mine in 2005. In NY where the fans live and die by a World Series championship, 7 years must feel like 100 years.

Let's see if they keep Torre first. If they fire the best manager in baseball, I say dump all over them.

I'm a Tiger's fan. I love it.

how about if we just keep a simple classic....
YANKEES SUCK!!!

You're a tool.

Why would you start now? Dont you think no other team is even on the level the NY Yankees are. Everyone expects the Yankees to win every year but it doesnt work that way. How would you compare 1918 to 2000 just having a 7 year slump. Throught those 7 years the Yankees have been in the world series 3 times more then any other team despite the loss atleast they've played hard to achieve. I dont understand why people hate such a powerful team? Do you think anyone will ever catch up to have 26 world championships AND COUNTING? Well sir, dont start just yet it's too soon to start taunts that do not compare

I really wish, when people start bringing out 26, like it's the greatest # in the world, someone would bring up the Montreal Canadiens and their stanley cups as a comparison

Stanley Cup Champions: (24)
1916, 1924, 1930, 1931, 1944, 1946, 1953, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1986, 1993

So, it's not like there is no comparision out there, some people just need a little blue streak to follow it.

I want Arod to opt out, then to have no one sign him.

do what you want i could careless

No it hasn't. Not even close. If it is long enough, I doubt you will be alive to experience it. The Yankees will win a Championship sooner or later. It won't be nearly as long as the Red Sox 1918-2004 drought. As for the 1918 chants for the Red Sox, I have easily replaced it with 2090 chants.
