So if you think Clemens cheated, your black?

Apparently so. I've been accused in my Clemens/steroid threads of being black, and a racist. The funny thing is, I'm neither. I'm a young Half Italian half Irish male, who sees race as irrelevant. But apparently, since I think Clemens skill growing and his rise in statistics points to obvious abuse of steroids, I must be a black guy and a racist. I guess Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton's race baiting antics have become very popular among other races too :/.

" Skill " is meant to be "skull".

That's a new one to me. The race issue. Clemens might have used, but he's been sucking this season to me. His longevity is a bit freakish though.

The last time he came to Baltimore, we tattooed his azs and those phuckin Yankees. I wish he would play a full season, or retire and stay retired.

Maybe white folks love Clemens more than you think or maybe, just maybe, this country sees race more than we like to admit.

I don't think clemens ever touched that stuff myself....He was dominating early in his career, and as he grew older he maintained his dominance because he learned how to pitch and not just throw the ball....Did Smolts, Glavine, Maddux, Schilling, etc...cheat?? No the were just dominating!

Well He Forgets that he's White so He's going to Realize One day He's WHITE not Black, But why even Bring Up Race, You know its Stupid.

Now because he's getting his good stuff back, he's on steroids?

He actually didn't throw harder. His fastball went from 97-98 to like 93. He learned to actually mix his pitches better and control his splitter better. Plus, he went from the AL to the NL. Usually by doing that you can subtract 1 whole point in your ERA. He subtracted a little more than that. Even though the NL has won a few championships over the last few years, the teams are very weak compared to AL teams. Also if you noticed he pitched 6 innings a lot of the time. It wasn't like he was loading up on complete games. He gave 6 solid innings throwing about 90 pitches. So he was able to stay stronger throughout the game.

I don't know why people bring up race. It is just a lame excuse.

I think Clemens took roids and I'm not black... so no.

... don't worry about it man.. those are Yankee fans.. they don't even know who Roger Clemens is.

Yankees fans think that only their 5hit don't stink

Well maybe you should look at some of the reasons why Clemens' numbers are still incredible. First of all, for the first few years of his career he only threw 2 pitches a fastball and breaking ball. in 1990 he developed his splitter, which improved his domnating for dramatically, it became one of the best pitches ever in the game. The biggest reason he's been able to stay consistent is because of his workout routine. College aged athletes cannot make it through one of Roger's workouts and I can guarantee nobody in this posting can either; he's doing it at 45 years old.

Now the reason for a better ERA: for most of his career he was an American League pitcher and dominated in tougher lineups. While with Houston, he was in the National League facing weaker lineups fewer great players, younger players and batters who had never seen him before. He also was pitching fewer innings because of the need to pinch hit. It is easier to have a lower ERA with less innings.

The whole race thing is totally prepostorous. There are players of all races that have been tested positive.

Why do we always come to racism??? Get a clue, people!!!

I agree that bringing race into differences of opinion about individual behavior is wrong. It soon becomes a "white guys think this, black guys think this, Asian guys think this, Hispanic guys think this......" situation. Recognize that we are all individuals and think for yourself. I'm sure we all know of examples such as two brothers who are very different from each other. They're not only of the same race, but have the same parents. Nevertheless, they are much different in how they think. Prejudice is a mental shortcut. Rise above it.
Now about this steroid thing. Obviously I don't know who's been using what, but I do know that the right training and attitude can produce unbelievable increases in performance even in later years. In my opinion great training and nutrition can produce better results than "performance enhancing drugs". Add natural talent, willpower and spirit, and steroids are lame by comparison. I'm sure many of the best know that and wouldn't risk cancer, important body parts and their careers when they can do things better and longer without messing up their bodies with "performance enhancing drugs".
