| What new baseball statistic would be really helpful? |

With the importance of statistics being what they are in baseball, I'd like to know if the following things can be or already are being measured: |
|
I think that the likelihood runner will attempt to steal a base would be helpful to the pitcher, so that they know who to watch if they let them on base, or if they need to throw to 1st to the get the out. |

I think baseball is way over their heads with stats. These "stats" are all included in scouting reports. They are measured and calculated because statisticians have nothing better to do than to calculate stuff like this. You'd be amazed at some of the stuff these guys come up with. Here's one. ABS. Almost Blown Save. They should invent it for Joe Borowski. It's when they allow the tying/winning into scoring posistion.. I saw this idea on ESPN. there should be an official stat for a quality start...wins are so deceiving for a pitcher...say 3 er in 6 innings or something like that... Total Games back. If a team is say 10 games back and has to pass up 2-3 teams till first place, it doesnt gauge how close they really are. If one team loses 10 in a row, and they win 10 in a row, it doesnt mean they are in first place. |
