Doe anyone have any information on the dangers of throwing weighted baseballs as a way to improve velocity?

A local baseball training facility is promoting the use of what I feel is very a dangerous activity for developing throwing athletes. Throwing weighted baseballs to improve velocity has always been frowned upon. Does an orthopedic have an opinion?

It really depends on how much your throwing and how often. Even with a normal baseball if you throw too much or too hard you can throw out and injure your arm. So as long as you do it in moderation you should be fine. Also if your arm begins to hurt, tell the your trainer immediately, otherwise you can seriously hurt your arm.

Dangerous? Not so much.

Ineffective? probably.
