Where I live an 8 week soccer season costs $120. It is very hard for me to afford but I make it happen for my grandchild.This soccer is thru the park district. Base ball is the same here. Alo of us just can't afford it. It is even worse if the team makes it thru the district area, then the familys have to travel to be at the game.

I don't know i think it goes with the nationalities. Growing up they mostly learn about basketball and football from family members so that is what they get in to. The only way to change that is to start by introducing them to baseball as mush as other sports. (I think....)

We have done all we can. You can lead a cow to pasture, but you can't make it eat. Plus, they represent 10% of the population and they make up 8.4% of the majors! That is a fair representation! Where is the problem!!! If they liked baseball they'd make bats and balls like kids do overseas and I did as a child. And maybe some that do play aren't good enough.

It all comes down to the fact that you can't make disco cool again, and the same goes for baseball. It is not our most popular sport now.

Stop watching this farce that is called the NBA. The majority of players are ruining the minds of all youths that look up to them!!

Build fields, maintain them (it's amazing how many fields there are that have more glass than grass in inner cities), and provide equipment, but most of all, provide tickets to communities for children who can not afford them, and get them into the ballparks. (More afternoon games wouldn't hurt either!)

Why would you want to centre on something so unimportant as the colour of someone's skin.

Why only African Americans, why not european Americans, Asian Americans, American Americans? Ok, I made the last one up.

As long as kids are concerned what others think about them, the more you will lose to sports and they will go to guns and rap. Both evils in US society.

more free well kept parks in areas with high populations of african american youths. it's harder to play baseball because of all the equipment, space, and people needed. basketball, can be played alone in a small drive with just one hoop and a ball. baseball is not that accessible, even for white or latino kids.

Constant playing and practicing.

Show black major league players wearing lots of bling and dressing like thugs and occassionaly getting arrested.

Young kids look up to people like that and then you'll have a spike in young blacks playing baseball.

Remember, basketball can be practiced alone, and played with one friend or a few. Baseball needs 9 players for each team. That makes it hard (er) to practice, right there. When children are really young, it seems that businesses are willing to sponsor the little children. It becomes a lot more expensive to sponsor baseball teams for teens, when today's teen has television telling him/her that basketball and Football are where the money lies.
As soon as children are out of elementary school, a small town has one or two middle schools. A small area may have only one highschool. Because of this, there is the cost of taking the baseball team out of town, in order to play a team.
Still, until we can get teens to gather, on their own, wanting to all play a baseball game, this is going to be tough. So, unless sponsorship is out there, teen rec baseball fields are available, unlocked, and free to practice........I cannot see a large change in this problem. It is sad.
