I don't think it will happen but what a trade. I think it makes since for both teams. Mets at the end of the year definitely looked like they needed more pitching on the way to their losing the division. Santana would fill that role for them. The mets are going to go and spend a lot of money this off season. The Twins do not like to spend a lot so for them getting a SS of Reyes caliber would be amazing for that at such a cheap price. Imagine how much better Reyes will be in the offense oriented AL and Santana in the pitching dominated NL. Imagine Santana and Peavy pitching against each other. That alone is reason enough for me to want this trade to go off.

I think for the mets, if they can sign santana long term would be a great deal with the risk of losing tommy glavine... but losing jose reyes? idk, he really did create a lot of runs himself with all his steals. i think it would help them from a pitching standpoint but hurt them offensively BIG TIME.


For the twins? It all depends with what you do with your free agents...if they lose torii hunter they can use a guy like reyes, but if they sign him, reyes would be a good addition but not completely necessary, especially for a guy like santana.

overall, i think this trade is ridicolous both ways.

Fantastic deal for the Twins, completely moronic for the Mets because Santana has one year left on his contract.

If they couldn't sign him, they would have given away one of the best SS in the game and if they could sign him, they only need to wait one year and sign him as a FA and keep Reyes.

The NYM franchise should fold if they made that deal
