Manager question?

One of the managers being rumored to take over for Joe Torre next season with the Yankees is Tony La Russa. If La Russa becomes the Yankees manager, it will be the second time he's succeeded Torre. He replaced Torre in St. Louis following the 1995 season.

My question is: Would this be the first time a manager has succeeded another manager on two separate occasions?
.

Good question. But there's no way LaRussa is taking that job. He's not laid back like Torre. He'd have a couple more DUIs in NYC.

I don't recall hearing of anyone succeeding a manager twice, but I could be wrong. However, La Russa has said he will not take over as the Yankees manager.
