I know there is a rumor that Joe Torre might be getting fired; this morning someone told me that they read in the paper that Joe did get fired and now they are looking to trading Arod. Did anyone hear the same thing or can help me find more info on this?

steinbrenner threatened to fire torre after the yanks dropped the first two games to the indians. after a yankee win in game 3, steinbrenner confirmed his statement, saying torre is gone if they dont win the series.

but after hearing this, the backbone of the yankees team (posada, rivera, a-rod and others) threatened back by saying they will leave (all being free-agents, or opt-out option) if torre is fired.

steinbrenner hasnt finalized the firing of torre, but rumors are going around that joe girardi, and bob brenly (who beat torre in '01 WS) are the frontrunners for taking torre's job if it opens.

Just speculation on this. Torre decision should be out by Friday and A-Rod has until l0 days after World Series to opt out of contract.

Well, the Yankees have no say on what happens with A-Rod at this point. He'll be a free agent if he so chooses after the World Series, so a trade is impossible.

1) Joe Torre is not fired.....yet

He has to go. The man has taken enough beating already in New York. He is aging and he has accomplished quite a bit being a player and as a manager, so he needs to go. His time is up. Steinbrenner is not impressed with how the team is doing under Joe Torre now and he threatend to fire Torre if The Yanks don't beat the Indians

2) A-rod cannot be traded. He is opting out of his contract. He can re-sign with the yankees or sign elsewhere...yanks have zero control over A-rod

Technically speaking Torre is not under contract so he can't be fired. The Yanks could choose to not re-sign him.
A-Rod - its all up to him , he can opt out of his contract. I would if I was him , just to get out of NY where he was never appreciated!!

The Yankees should say "Take it or leave it." That is, Alex, you can stay with us at your current salary, if you want anything more, you will have to leave. And don't let the door hit you in the Curt Schilling on the way out.

Rumors. Cashman said no decision will be made until during a meeting in Florida after the World Series. They can't trade A-Rod; he has an opt out for 2008 if he wants to. The Yankees have him under contract to pay him $27 million (gags a whale) for next year. $7 million of that will be paid by Texas. If he opts out, Texas & the Yankees don't owe him a dime.

If there is any love for Joe Torre than the right thing to do would be to ask Joe to step down. That way it looks better than him getting fired.

I love all of the great things that Joe has done for the Yankees but the team need a spark and breath of fresh air to motivate them on a consistent basis.

There arent too many teams that can afford Alex. They number 3 or 4. Joe torre should be fired. He hasn't gotten them past the first round of the playoffs in the past 4 years. In NY the greatest venue in all of sport you have to perform. If you don't your toast.
Any news of Alex is premature.
